Richard Donnay - a true friend of the Newfoundland

I learned from Sandy that Richard died last night in hospice.
I first met Richard and Sandy in the mid 1980's when Maureen and I had
moved back to Minnesota and started showing dogs. Richard not only "upped
the level" of handling for all of us, he promoted the exhibiting of
Newfoundlands and made sure that we had decent entries at many shows.  He
and Sandy also welcomed everyone to their bus on the show grounds, helped
people with grooming, and were part of the small group that pushed to
create the Northstar Newfoundland Club.

I have more to say (and I will) but right now I'm still in a state of shock
from this news.  Please join me in extending my condolences to Sandy,

Chris Plum

Oh, this is just the saddest news.  Living in Canada, Richard was the first
"handler" that I employed on my first venture to AKC shows.  Just a
genuine, all round nice guy, that gave of himself and helped so many people.
My sincere condolences to his family and especially to Sandy.  May he rest
in peace.

Richard was a great guy!
Helped me get my dog finished when I couldn’t get it done do to being in nursing school.
I’ll never forget when he asked how long it usually took him to go when being exercised.
I told him -
I just open the door and tell him to go.
He replied- gee I wish I had known that, I think I walked him 2 miles and he chuckled.
Harry and I were raising puppies for a service dog organization at the time and the dogs needed to go at our convenience, not theirs.
Thank you Richard for your kind heart and patience.
Sandy- my sincere condolences to you.
I hope you have lots of great stories and memories to hold in your heart.
