Hi all-
I'm looking for some input on trainers teaching water work in or near the MN metro. The facility I work with in Mendota Heights has in indoor pool (The Dog Tank) and some of our dock diving students have inquired. Frankly I'd be interested in getting Gracie involved too.
Any suggestions?
Thanks

I am interested in this as well! It’s been a dream of mine to do water work.
My day job is a lifeguard instructor and swim instructor, so it goes hand in hand.

Hi all
I will join this threAd and will impart what knowledge I have. Currently we have Opus, who is 11 months old. I LOVE doing water work! In the past I trained RUBY, our 2 nd newf in water work. She earned the first 2 titles at that time, I believe around 2004 or so. At that point they were just developing the WRDX, the 3rd title. Ruby was too old at that point to compete at that level. My oldest daughter is now 17 and she was a toddler when we earned those titles, so I’m a little out of practice! At that time we trained with Ann and Andre LaPeyere and Ann Dunnigan and trained in a lake in Rochester and then also with Rhonda Kern in Ham Lake. Rhonda and her husband Gary generously trained with us at their home in Ham Lake and then the newf club had water trials at their home as well.
I’m knowledgeable enough to teach exercises from those first two levels and to teach retrieving to people. I’m sure that test regulations must have changed somewhat over the years and I need to get up to speed. And now as of last summer, I have a rowboat with a platform for water work that I purchased from my friend in the Portuguese Water Dog club!
My suggestion is to have the newf club ask Ann, Andre and Ann if they would be willing to put on another workshop early in the season. Finding a lake to train in is difficult in the city, most will not allow dogs. It’s one thing to swim your dog discreetly on the side where you hope no one cares. It’s another thing entirely to launch a rowboat, canoe and multiple drowning volunteers without getting a permit of some kind. It takes village to do this type of training. Opus and I are ready to jump in if others can lend their help as well!

Sue, I was also at those trainings with Ann Dunnigan, Ann and Andre
LaPeyere, and the workshops held at Rhonda and Gary Kern's years ago with
my Newfy, Henry. Those were all so helpful. Also, the Lovetts from
Michigan put on some fantastic workshops. About 2 years ago, Ann
Dunnigan and the LaPeyeres did a dry land water workshop at the Owatonna
location.
I hope Gracie and I can join you at some point. But first....
Gracie, my Newfy, and I will be working on her confidence of letting
herself float in the water. We drove to Kenosha, Wisconsin last summer for
a water workshop and the year before took Gracie in at a friend's home. No
go. She does have a doggy water vest too.
We will be working on this in hopes that Gracie can try another workshop.
I have a friend who is going to assist me, so fingers crossed.

cares. It’s another thing entirely to launch a rowboat, canoe and multiple
drowning volunteers without getting a permit of some kind. It takes village
to do this type of training. Opus and I are ready to jump in if others can
lend their help as well!

Hi all-
I'm looking for some input on trainers teaching water work in or near
the MN metro. The facility I work with in Mendota Heights has in indoor
pool (The Dog Tank) and some of our dock diving students have inquired.
Frankly I'd be interested in getting Gracie involved too.

Hi Mary Jeanne
I remember you and Henry!! Well, Opus is not swimming on his own yet. He is very, very interested in water and goes in right away but not swimming independently without me having him circle around and them back to touch his feet. I bought him a life jacket too and hope to spend some time at the pool here over the winter to see if he can swim there.

Hi all,
We are having a membership meeting in March. We could discuss details on organizing a workshop. In the water vs dry land. Or we could set up workshops to do both. Things to think about .
I know I have been asked several times lately about NorthStar hosting a trial. Not only is finding a location that will allow dogs a difficult task, it requires a lot of volunteers.
Monte is now to old for me to train with, but I would love to help in workshops and, if we get to that point, help with a trial.

Sue, I was also at those trainings with Ann Dunnigan, Ann and Andre LaPeyere, and the workshops held at Rhonda and Gary Kern's years ago with my Newfy, Henry. Those were all so helpful. Also, the Lovetts from Michigan put on some fantastic workshops. About 2 years ago, Ann Dunnigan and the LaPeyeres did a dry land water workshop at the Owatonna location.
I hope Gracie and I can join you at some point. But first....
Gracie, my Newfy, and I will be working on her confidence of letting herself float in the water. We drove to Kenosha, Wisconsin last summer for a water workshop and the year before took Gracie in at a friend's home. No go. She does have a doggy water vest too.
We will be working on this in hopes that Gracie can try another workshop. I have a friend who is going to assist me, so fingers crossed.

Hi all
I will join this threAd and will impart what knowledge I have.

I am interested in this as well! It’s been a dream of mine to do water work.
My day job is a lifeguard instructor and swim instructor, so it goes hand in hand.

Hi all-
I'm looking for some input on trainers teaching water work in or near the MN metro. The facility I work with in Mendota Heights has in indoor pool (The Dog Tank) and some of our dock diving students have inquired. Frankly I'd be interested in getting Gracie involved too.
Any suggestions?
Thanks
