Hello All,
Since we have not been able to have our last two membership meetings do to this Covid stuff, us board members had a Zoom meeting to go over things, and to make sure we were compliant in our board meetings. So this email will probably be a bit long with updates. :)
So the Fall Membership meeting is tentative for Saturday, October 3rd. I say tentative because it could be canceled if MN goes back into a lockdown. It will again be at Duane and Susie Manke's home. We discussed doing a draft demo. We will of course have some of our usual games. It is usually a pot luck lunch and we have the meeting part while we eat. Lunch/meeting starts at noon, we will have things set up by 11, so you can come anytime from then.
With all the State guidelines about gatherings, right now MN is limited to 25 people outdoors. We roughly get that many here. But I think with our dogs, we do a good enough job of social distancing, so the 6 ft rule could easily be done. We will have more tables set up for eating, so we can assure this. We are looking to get a wash station and porta-bif and will have hand sanitizer around too. We would ask that you please wear a mask as well.
We discussed Northstar's Regional Specialty which is tentatively set for December 12-13, 2020. This is held in conjunction with Granite City Kennel Club's all breed shows. I have been attending their meetings on the discussion on whether to hold the shows or not. The discussion was tabled until this months meeting. If GCKC holds their show, we will hold ours. If they do not, we will not. The problem is the venue is only allowed 100 people in the building at one time as of now. Which will not work for a dog show.
We discussed prizes for the show. We talked about doing prizes for not only the major wins (BOB, BOS, BOW, WD, WB, Best Veteran, Best in Sweeps, Best Junior) but adding the classes for sweeps as well, which would add 10 more categories we'd need prizes for each day. At this time, we decided to keep with our same prizes for the major wins and not adding the sweeps classes. We will still go with Prairie Dog Pottery and would like to do the Totems for the Best of Breed and Best of Opposite again. We get such great response for the pottery and the totems were a big hit. Out best Junior Handler prize has been a Rico's gift card for the last couple years (which there isn't many places that Rico's goes for them to use it), and I think we need to support our junior handles and have a much more substantial prize. So I am going to work with Prairie Dog Pottery to see if we can come up with something. Most of our trophies have cost $25-35 each, except for the totems being $65-75. We had enough people last year willing to sponsor or donate to a trophy, so we had all that cost covered. This will be discussed further at the fall meeting if we are able to host the show.
Rescue:We've had a couple of dogs come and go since we met in December. Bison and Fria. Bison is in his new home and doing well, Fria is in the process of making her way to her new home. We are always looking for fosters. If you would like to help foster, please let me know and we can discuss further.
We discussed fundraising ideas for both Rescue and the Specialty show. Something like having a craft workshop to build grooming tables? Or something else?
We also discussed doing things like "Meet the Breed" , or carting at store openings/open houses with a donation box for rescue. Doing tree pulls for Christmas Tree farms, and having a donation box there as well.
Any other ideas for raising money for either rescue or the specialty show would be greatly appreciated.
We are also still working on becoming a 501(c)3 organization, so it will be easier for us to take donations, especially if we have businesses that would like to help out.
We also talked about our website. For the past several years, a club member has been so graciously paying our annual web fee, but will not be going forward. We would like to keep the website going, and the club will likely be paying that fee. We are wondering if there is anyone in our club that knows anything about web design (or knows of someone that could help us) that could give our website a facelift and maybe be willing to update it with content? I currently have been updating the Clubs Facebook page, but would be willing to put them on as an admin as well to help with fresh content.
Well, I believe I have gone over all what the board discussed at our Zoom meeting. If anyone as any questions about any of this, feel free to ask.
I hope everyone is staying safe and healthy and we look forward to seeing you all at the Fall Meeting October 3rd!!
