Hi,

I will attempt not to be too lengthy. I have some questions and normally on the Newf-L website I would get chastised and yelled at for this, but I’m going to try here.

We are looking to add an addition to our family. A second newf. We really want a landseer this time. Yes, I have heard all the comments about how a black will bring you your newspaper and a landseer will read it to you! This makes me want a landseer more!

It seems like landseer breeders are hard to find, and when I ask questions on the other list, it just stresses me out more. At times it seems, from the comments I get, that finding a good breeder is the hardest thing to do in life.

So, my question is this, does anyone know of any landseer breeders that would top the list of good Newfoundland breeders? If this question is a no no, you could respond privately to me.

Thanks in advance,

Karen

I don't know of any but your best start would be the newfoundland club of
America website and look for a breeder of merit in the find a breeder
section.
Good luck!

Hi Karen,
I’m sorry you’ve been having troubles with other Newf related sites.
Reputable breeders that breed Landseers are harder to find in this area. If you are not opposed to traveling, I would highly recommend checking out the Newfoundland Club of America’s (NCA) website, www.ncanewfs.org. They have a breeders list and a great puppy buyers guide to help you review breeders you may find that are not on the breeders list.
The list does show which colors(black, brown, Landseer)they typically breed for.
If you have any questions, or would like help reviewing breeders, I would be happy to help.

Good luck with your search!

Karen:

One thing to note is that (at least in the US) there is no such thing as a "Landseer breeder" - there are Newfoundland breeders who breed litters that include Landseers, sometimes all the puppies, sometimes just some of them.  Brown and gray are also possible colors.  Landseers mothers can produce both black and white and black puppies (I have a black dog with Landseer ancestors).  Only about 1 of 10 Newfoundlands is a Landseer, so they are a lot less common, you may well need to wait a while to find one and then get one, but since you are motivated,  I expect it will be worth it!

Hi Karen,
I would second Jeff's suggestion to contact Michelle Gordon - she is a wonderful breeder.  I have gotten 3 newfies from her - brown, black and Landseerer (he is 8yrs old) and she is a very caring and helpful breeder and always willing to help.

Hi!
Have you contacted Susan M. Wagner?  I haven’t read through all the replies but she’s the only one who comes to mind when speaking about Landseers in MN.  If not she can be found on Facebook by her name but her kennel is Nuvo Newfoundlands and another breed can’t remember which.
Good luck!

Hi,

Thank you! Yes we are not in contact. I appreciate everyone’s help.

This list is very kind and helpful. My previous experience has been people saying to make sure you go through a good breeder, but no one offers opinions on good breeders. Then when you ask about one, there is a lot of judgement and negativity.

Thank you everyone for your input.

Hi,

Hi!
Have you contacted Susan M. Wagner?  I haven’t read through all the replies but she’s the only one who comes to mind when speaking about Landseers in MN.  If not she can be found on Facebook by her name but her kennel is Nuvo Newfoundlands and another breed can’t remember which.
Good luck!

Kind regards,

Marisela

Karen
