Summer Meeting Recap

Hi All!
We had a great turn out for our summer picnic meeting this year. Enough so that the judge that judged Newfs that day took notice! She was excited to see such a turn out to support the newfs in the ring.  So thank you!!My grooming seminar didn't quite go as planned, partly because we did not have the pavilion like in the past (I made sure that we have it for next year though!) and it rained.  I hope that what I was able to demonstrate was helpful to people.  I am always happy to meet anytime to go over things as well. We didn't really have much of a "meeting", we didn't have anything to vote on this time around.  So I said I would just send an email out on things that we need to update on.
1 - Our next water training is July 9th from 9am-12pm in Princeton. It is $5 a person/dog. If you would like to come please let me know so we can plan accordingly and I can get you directions.  We are also working on getting a possible second site and setting a regular schedule. For now, it is the one location with dates and times TBD as we go.
2 - Our Regional Specialty is October  7th & 8th.  I could use a couple of people to volunteer to help with set up, handing out ring favors & prizes, and manning the raffle table.  We have a few things to raffle/silent auction so far, if you would like to donate something, we would appreciate that as well.  Donations help cover the costs of our show outside of the trophies. So far what I have is:Quilt with Newf fabricDog Works WagonMetal Newf wall hangerWiggle Giggle BallSet of 3 rope toys
I am still looking for sponsors for some of our trophies.  If you would like to sponsor a trophy, this is what I am still looking for:For Friday I just need Select Dog $40For Saturday:Best of Opposite in Sweeps $35Best of Opposite Veteran Sweeps $35Winners Bitch $25Winners Dog $25Select Dog $40Best Junior $70
If you would like to sponsor, checks can be made out to Northstar Newfoundland Club and mailed to me.
I am also looking into the idea of having logo apparel/items for sale that will help with costs. If we have any artsy people in the club that would like to draw up a fall newf design, I am open to ideas. But this will have to get done in the next month or so, so I can promote it.

3 - Our Fall meeting date will be September 24, 2022 at Duane and Susie Manke's place in Annandale.  Program to be determined. If you have something that you would like us to discuss or demonstrate at this meeting, please let us know.

Lastly, our club is only as good as it's members.  If we want to keep this club active, we need more people to participate. And by participate, I don't mean just show up to meetings.  We need people who are willing to take on chairing a committee, be on a committee to keep the education for various things going. We finally have a working dog committee that is working to get water training going, with the goal in mind that we can hold water test/trail again. It would be nice to get the draft side of that going as well. It would be nice to have an education chair/committee, do organize things around Newf/large breed health, breeding, over all care, etcNorthstar also had a recognition chair/committee. We used to give out little awards to owners/dogs that earned new titles.
It would be nice to get these things going again. Amongst other things. And have our club be more active.  If we don't start having a more active membership, we may have to consider dissolution of the club, as it is no longer serving its purpose. Which deeply saddens me.  The club cannot run with just the 2-4 members that have continuously kept this club alive the last 10 years or so that I have been an officer or board member.  It's taking a toll on us.
If  you have any questions on any of this, or want to know how you can help, feel free to email me outside of Newflink (ticklebaynewfs@yahoo.com)
Thank you!

Please put me down for the water on July 9th.  Rio's never been on the
water for a real swim so should be interesting.  Thanks so much for your
efforts on this.

Congrats again on your shoeing at Cambridge.  Sorry I did feel up to being
there.

Hi Missy,
I’d love to be able to come to future water training events. Even to audit, if no pup. Unfortunately I teach nose work that weekend so I’ll have to try to make the next one work.
Be well!

Subject: [NewfLink] Summer Meeting Recap

Hi All!

We had a great turn out for our summer picnic meeting this year. Enough so that the judge that judged Newfs that day took notice! She was excited to see such a turn out to support the newfs in the ring.  So thank you!!

My grooming seminar didn't quite go as planned, partly because we did not have the pavilion like in the past (I made sure that we have it for next year though!) and it rained.

So far what I have is:

Quilt with Newf fabric

Dog Works Wagon

Metal Newf wall hanger

Wiggle Giggle Ball

Set of 3 rope toys

I am still looking for sponsors for some of our trophies.  If you would like to sponsor a trophy, this is what I am still looking for:

For Friday I just need Select Dog $40

For Saturday:

Best of Opposite in Sweeps $35

Best of Opposite Veteran Sweeps $35

Winners Bitch $25

Winners Dog $25

Select Dog $40

Best Junior $70

It would be nice to have an education chair/committee, do organize things around Newf/large breed health, breeding, over all care, etc

Northstar also had a recognition chair/committee.

If  you have any questions on any of this, or want to know how you can help, feel free to email me outside of Newflink (ticklebaynewfs@yahoo.com mailto:ticklebaynewfs@yahoo.com )

Thank you!

My grooming seminar didn't quite go as planned, partly because we did not have the pavilion like in the past (I made sure that we have it for next year though!) and it rained.

I read Missy's note following the June meeting and was once again amazed at
how much this woman does for the Northstar Club. I can remember when we
started the club and it was her parents who were doing the heavy lifting.
There have been a string of volunteers who have done the work to keep the
club going over the past 28 years, although I doubt any of them did took
care of so many things as Missy is doing. For example when I was President
about a dozen years ago we stopped having a regular newsletter because I
didn't have time to do it and no one else wanted it; but now, with Facebook
it is almost the same (or maybe better) than having a newsletter.
Likewise my hat is off to Ted Mittlestadt who had been in charge or
membership and hosted the annual March meeting for as long as I can now
remember, as well as seeking out carting and working opportunities.
There are others - Richard and Sandy Donnay make sure we are represented in
Specialty shows every year, Tammy Corrow, Jeff Ohman and Lori Mo seem to
step in every time a Newf needs to be rescued.  I hope others will take the
opportunity to add more names to this list.

My real point is not to recognize the great job done by a small number of
people, but rather to have everyone else recognize two things:

  1. Each person who fills big shoes in the club today had no idea of how to
do it, or if they would have enough time, when they started, but they
    succeeded.

  2. Any amount of help is appreciated - a few hours a year makes an
incredible difference, you are not taking a second full time job.

So I urge each and every one of you to find some thing you can do to help
out for an hour or two in the next year and put your name down next to that
item. You'll be glad that you did, and so will everyone else in the club -
plus the dogs.

And remember a few things from Missy's last report:

3 - Our Fall meeting date will be September 24, 2022 at Duane and Susie
Manke's place in Annandale.  Program to be determined. If you have
something that you would like us to discuss or demonstrate at this meeting,
please let us know.

...we need more people to participate. ...to take on chairing a committee,
be on a committee to keep the education for various things going.

We finally have a working dog committee that is working to get water
training going, with the goal in mind that we can hold water test/trail
again.

It would be nice to get the draft side of that going as well.

It would be nice to have an education chair/committee,

and a recognition chair/committee. We used to give out little awards to
owners/dogs that earned new titles.

If  you have any questions on any of this, or want to know how you can
help, let Missy know: (ticklebaynewfs@yahoo.com)

Thank you!
