Hi Missy, I am inquiring into your plea looking for potential foster homes! I volunteer at our local shelter near my home and have fostered cats,kittens, dogs and puppies in the past. So I feel comfortable doing this task ( which I love to do).
We also have a Newf of our own who will be turning 2 this week. So our family would be on board to help out with fostering🙂 My question is with our Newf he is still unaltered and probably will be until early next year to give all those big joints and ligaments time to form. Would this be an issue?
Also I do have 2 cats in the house and chickens outside in their fenced area.
We would initially be on board to help out with a shorter time foster just to make sure our dog and other critters will be good with it. (Although Jax, our fluffball Newf absolutely Loves everyone and everything he meets!!).

I recently had to move two seniors that did not work out in their foster to adopt home due to the resident dog becoming increasingly aggressive with them.
They were moved to another NCA rescue (out of state) that is also very overwhelmed with rescue intake, but were able to take these two in last minute for us.

MN Newf Rescue is also being inundated with surrender requests and are pretty much at capacity as well and in need of fosters. Northstar and MN Newf Rescue are independent rescues from each other, but we often work together on when dogs come in. So when I say we are in need of fosters, it goes for both rescues.

What we are looking for in a foster:
A fenced yard is preferred. Some dogs that come in my be a flight risk and having a fenced yard keeps things safe for both the foster dog and family.
Willing to house and feed the dog until it can be fully vetted, cured/healed from any medical issue that may come up. Depending on the dog and it's issues, it can be anywhere from a couple of weeks (basic vetting, no health issues) to 6 or more months (heartworm treatment, spay/neuter).
Feed is at foster family's expense.
Vet bills for medication, procedures are at the Clubs expense, but with prior authorization. Procedures and medications will need an estimate from the vet to send to Rescue chair to discuss with the Club board to approve.
Once approved, foster family will be responsible for payment due at time of procedure, and a receipt should be submitted to the rescue chair for reimbursement.
Some dogs may come in with behavioral issues. Having the ability to work with the dog in a positive manner to work with the dog on learning basic manners (sit, stay, heal on a leash, etc) would be a plus. Or at the vary least, be able to take the dog to basic training classes.

We currently have a young 1-2 year old dog that we've been contacted about. The surrendering family adopted the dog from animal control out in the State of Wyoming, and has had it a week and cannot keep it.
He is basically a very large puppy with puppy antics. Jumping, no basic obedience, and does not walk well on a leash.
Currently located in Stillwater.
