Subject: Canine Cystinuria Clinical Trial: Updated Information
Hello, Newfoundland Lover!
We are writing to you in search of Newfoundlands with cystinuria, a type of kidney disease more prevalent in certain breeds of dogs. We are helping to develop a drug for this disease and are looking for dogs to participate in a simple study.
The study has been initiated and we have several spots still available for participation.
Trial Specifics
The trial involves only one veterinary visit that is funded by the trial. The rest of the trial activities occur at home. The trial will involve administration of 2 oral treatments, in tablet form, over the course of 1 day (also called “one dosing period”). During this time, urine samples will be collected. The samples will then be sent in one shipment to a laboratory. Shipping and sample collection materials are provided by the trial. This process will be replicated a total of four times (four dosing periods). The therapies involved are not expected to cause dogs any pain or distress, and the study can be conducted at home, and on a schedule that is convenient for you. Successful completion of the first two dosing periods will result in a $500 honorarium. Completion of the second two will result in an additional $250 honorarium, for a total of $750. It is hoped that these and other studies will result in an FDA approved therapy for dogs with cystinuria. More details will be disclosed under a confidentiality agreement.
Trial Eligibility
Dogs must weigh at least 20kg (45lb). Dogs must be diagnosed with cystinuria, but otherwise healthy. A short visit to any veterinarian to get your dog’s weight and confirm general good health will be required. Trial medications must be given in a way that ensures they are swallowed. The use of a Pill Pocket, or the like, is recommended.
Locations
Any US veterinarian for a pre-trial checkup as long as the veterinarian is willing to participate.
