I have a 130 pound Landseer who is about 6 years old. We got her out of Rescue in St. Paul, Mn. We have had her for 5 years and she and I are a Therapy Dog Team. We go to many residences and programs, and Josie is excellent and comforting to everyone regardless of  their  age or situation. She now has arthritis and some joint problems and we are treating those.  She has some problems in getting into and out of the car now. She will not use a ramp. I talked with our vet and he suggested we find or make a one step platform. Parking next to a curb seems to be somewhat helpful, but there are many places where there is no curb available. I have been unable to find one. Have any of you had this issue, and how did you resolve it. Any help would be appreciated.      Josie and Don

Have you tried a Help Em Up harness? It helps you help her in and out and helps prevent the impact of jumping out of a vehicle.

Can you describe her issue with ramps?
Perhaps with training and a harness to feel safer, could she be more receptive to ramps?

Can she put her front legs in?  If she will,  or can be trained,  that's a
big help.  Then a boost of the back end is fairly easy.  One arm under
the belly,  one behind the knees/under the butt.

I have one who can't do that anymore.  Lifting in and out is a two person
job now.

For getting out at home I have a thick rubber mat (a horse stall mat from
tractor supply) for landing.  Even for the young dogs I think it's better
than all those landings on the concrete.
